Hearthfire

September 10, 2012

Keys to the Dovakiin Suite? YES FUCKING PLEASE.

I’m kind of late to the party, but I’d figure I’d give my two cents about the new DLC add-on for Skyrim. Now, as I’ve mentioned before, DLCs are pretty much out of my reach for now, so I haven’t actually begun to play it. From what I’ve heard though, it sounds pretty interesting.

Basically you get to purchase land and make your own home. Yes, your own personal Dovahkiin-worthy sanctuary. That’s pretty much it. Oh, and you can adopt kids and you might have to fight off giants and pesky skeever invasions. Damn those skeevers.

Now, from what I’ve heard before it came out were people going, “WTF?! Sims?! In MY Skyrim?” which I think is a bunch of bull, well, I mean, I can see the semblance a bit, but for me Hearthfire reminds a bit more of Fable. Not so much the building aspect, but the adopting kids bit (I assume you can’t have children with your spouse, but who knows).

So now I’m wondering if this could possibly happen if you have too much of a soft spot for children:

MOMMY. DADDY. MOMMY. DADDY. WHAT DID YOU BRING ME, MOMMY/DADDY? CAN I HAVE A TEDDY BEAR? CAN I COME ON AN ADVENTURE WITH YOU? CAN I HAVE A LOLLIPOP?

Or, you know, you could just adopt her:

I guarantee half of you PC users will kill your adopted children after a few days. Or, if it is like Fable, maybe you can just return them, I dunno.

Also, I have no idea how much it actually costs to make a Dovahkiin palace. I suppose it doesn’t matter too much, I mean most of my characters are fucking loaded, so I wouldn’t be too worried. And the plus side is you don’t have an annoying housecarl (at least I hope). Shit better not be too complicated, either. And are giants really destined to spawn outside your house? I mean, what if you live in an area way outside of giant territory? Shit doesn’t really make sense. And ooh, skeever infestations, more annoying than anything else, just like kill everything in like 2 seconds, it’s not that hard.

Does it seem awesome? Yes. Mainly because most of the awesome shit in the DICE demo reel made it into DLC. So kudos to Bethesda for that. It’s good for immersion-focused people like myself, and I like having more than 5…I mean, 8 options for a home, and it would be a chance to make something YOU designed, in a location YOU wanted, and all that jazz. So it’s pretty fucking sweet.

Will I be getting this? You bet your ass I will. When? Probably not for a very long time. 😦
